The Best Snacks That Helped Me Lose 80 Pounds + Recipes
- Last year, I lost 80 pounds without giving up the snacks or foods I love.
- Some of my favorite snacks are yogurt with toppings and air popcorn with mixes.
- I also like the Fried Zucchini Bites, Yasso Bars, and the Brownie Brittle.
Improving my health was incredibly intimidating for me because I thought I should let go of my love of snacking.
I had struggled with emotional binge eating since I was a kid, and it got worse when I lost my mom at the age of 17. less keep it away.
Fortunately, all I had to do was make some changes to my eating habits. And finding satisfying snacks and sharing them on my TikTok @spenceralexisfitness account has been a game-changer for me.
I love to choose snacks that I am passionate about and try to focus on what I eat rather than what I eat.
Of course, everyone has different strategies for losing weight and eating mindfully, but this is what works for me.
Read on for some of my favorite snacks.
I eat popcorn bowls almost everyday because they are simple and customizable
I throw air popcorn with low sugar chocolate chips, crackers or other little things into a bowl and eat it like trail mix.
It can be sweet or savory – or you can make a little of each.
Yasso bars contain a decent amount of protein
Protein has been really helpful in my
travel because it helps me feel more satisfied – and Yasso bars are full of it because it’s made with Greek yogurt.
A Yasso bar typically contains 5 grams of protein. For reference, an egg contains 6 grams of protein.
Yasso makes many flavors, but my favorites are the chocolate chip cookie dough and the birthday cake.
If you’re not a fan of these bars, you can try other high protein frozen desserts from brands like Enlightened, Favorite Day, and Halo Top.
I love making zucchini bites in my air fryer
My air fryer is my best friend because I can use it to satisfy most of my cravings in under 10 minutes.
To prepare my zucchini bites, I garnish the sliced zucchini with grated Parmesan, paprika, garlic salt and black pepper. Sometimes I change it up by topping them with taco seasoning or using sliced sweet potatoes as a base instead.
My candy bar oatmeal tastes indulgent but has fewer calories than most heavy desserts
I’m not a big fan of oatmeal, but I think the sheer amount of fiber and the number of toppings you can add makes this a solid breakfast for anyone with a sweet tooth.
To make oatmeal into a candy bar, mix 1/2 cup of oats with 1/2 tbsp of unsweetened caramel syrup and 1 tbsp of unsweetened cocoa powder. Then cook the oatmeal you have chosen according to the instructions on the package.
Add a Rolo in the center of the oatmeal while it is still hot and top it with whatever you want. Sometimes I mash a Fiber One brownie on top, then add mini marshmallows and low calorie chocolate syrup.
When I cook this dish it usually comes down to around 275 calories.
Bretzel Thins are a versatile snack, especially when paired with a dip
Pretzel Thins are available in just about any flavor, from chocolate caramel to Buffalo wing.
You can nibble them plain or accompany them with a dip. Some of my favorite dips are Aldi’s Chickpea Brownie Dough, TGI Friday’s Frozen Spinach Dip, and Grilled Red Pepper Hummus.
I love frozen fruit with a twist or a chocolate shell
I love to sprinkle green grapes with lime juice, then put them in the freezer. They taste like a tangy candy.
Sometimes I buy frozen chocolate covered fruit from TruFru or Banana Babies – they make a great late night snack.
Brownie Brittle is great if you fancy chocolate
Chocolate is my weakness, and snacking on Brownie Brittle helps me satisfy my cravings in moderation. I also like the salted caramel flavor.
These chip-shaped snacks typically contain 120 calories per serving.
My version of dirt and worms makes me feel like a kid again
I love making this classic childhood dessert with sugar-free chocolate pudding and crushed Oreo Thins. I use the gummy worms from SmartSweets, which do not contain any artificial or conventional sweeteners, and only add a few.
You can also replace the worms with whipped cream.
There are a few kinds of yogurts that I am looking for
Yogurt is a great way to get extra protein, especially at the start of the day.
Dannon Light and Fit Greek Crunch yogurts generally contain less than 150 calories and are available in several flavors. The strawberry and cheese one is my favorite.
I also like to stock up on Go-Gurt – each tube only has 50 calories and a suggested serving has three. I like to freeze them to make fro-yo popsicles.
