Nassau Candy has been making sweet stuff for over 100 years
There are sweet things that cook on Long Island.
Nassau Candy, a long-time family business with factories in Hicksville and Ronkonkoma, has been distributing delicious chocolates and other goodies since 1918.
“Although we are a large national company with over 1,000 associates, we have not forgotten our roots as small family businesses,” says Lance Stier, owner and head of mergers and acquisitions, business development and strategy at Nassau Candy and CEO of Custom NC.
It all started with a storefront in Hempstead. The business remained a retail operation for 66 years until Stier’s father, Les Stier, and his uncle, Barry Rosenbaum, acquired a candy and tobacco distribution business in 1984.
In 1987, the company made its own confectionery under the Nassau Candy and Nancy Adams brands. The company is in its second generation, Lance Stier and his siblings and cousins hold leadership positions in the company, and the founders Les, the president and CEO, and Barry, the president, act as their mentors.
The business is constantly evolving – Lance says that Nassau Candy is one of the only US manufacturers to make candied fruit slices and Jordan almonds, “because the process for both is long and very unique.”
Nassau Candy also makes molded chocolates (like bars and unique products, like truffles and rinds), coated chocolates (like pretzels and sea salt caramels), baked candies (like dark chocolate almonds ) and hundreds more.
The company distributes its candy to thousands of customers, including national retailers, independent candy stores, ice cream parlors, internet resellers, specialty food stores, large grocery chains, businesses and markets. specialized.
Most recently, Lance helped launch NC Custom, which personalizes products such as clothing, health and beauty items (like lip balm and sanitizer), confectionery, glasses and bags for women. clients ranging from businesses to zoos, aquariums, parks, university bookstores.
“We combine these items with themed artwork to create unique and sought-after collections in the corporate, travel and specialty retail sectors,” says Lance.
Nassau Candy’s product development and creative teams also customize labels for the businesses they serve. The company has partnerships with major brands such as Godiva, M & M’s (Mars Wrigley), Mrs. Fields and S’well.
