CHEF TATUNG PRESENTS EUROPEAN BEEF

Chef Myke Tatung Sarthou recently showcased the versatility of European grass-fed beef in an online masterclass.

The event was organized by Bord Bia, the Irish government’s food office, with co-funding from the European Union.

For the masterclass, Tatung took into account Filipinos’ love of their meats and developed two recipes using European beef from Ireland: herb-crusted beef striploin and Piyanggang beef short ribs.

European beef from Ireland is currently available in several high-end restaurants and hotels in Metro Manila, as well as high-end stores and supermarkets such as Landers.

FAMILYMART RETURNS THE REVEL BAR, SMORES

FamilyMart Philippines has brought back two of its most popular baked goods – sea bass and s’mores – to its stores nationwide, answering the clamor of long-time customers.

The party bar is made with an oat crust intertwined with chocolate and topped with streusel. S’mores, on the other hand, come in a brownie-based bar and topped with marshmallow.

Both pastries can be purchased at FamilyMart stores starting at P49 each and will soon be available for delivery through GrabFood.

Besides the party bar and s’mores, FamilyMart also recently introduced new items such as the Ichigo Matcha Latte, a combination of two of its flavored drinks; as well as its own take on twister fries, which will be available year-round.

GATEWAY GALLERY FOOD PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP

The Gateway Gallery in Araneta City will hold its first on-site art workshop for 2022 with the Delish Food Photography Workshop on April 30, from 2-5 p.m.

Veteran photographer Louie Aguinaldo will teach the principles, techniques, tools and tips on how to capture mouth-watering photos of food. The workshop will train participants to produce Instagram-worthy food and publicity photos, even with the use of a smartphone camera, whether for personal or professional use.

Aguinaldo began photographing models in 1991. In 1995 he expanded his photography work to advertising, fashion, food, drink and events. He has contributed photographic work to over 30 local and international magazines such as Marie Claire and Town and Country Magazine. Adept at photographing jewelry and luxury items, Aguinaldo regularly does food photography for hotels and restaurants.

The workshop fee is P1,500 and includes documents and a certificate. Participants must bring a smartphone (with camera) or DLSR camera.

JOLLIBEE SUMMER FLOATS

Jollibee is introducing three drinks as part of its Summer Floats line.

These include the Choco Float, a chocolate drink topped with vanilla soft serve; Coke Float, or Coke topped with vanilla soft serve and chocolate fudge; and Royal Float, or Royal topped with vanilla soft-serve.

The Choco Float retails for P49, while the soda floats are priced at P40. All are now available in Jollibee stores nationwide.

Yogurt brand Koomi welcomes the summer season with five new drinks: Berry Kiwissable, Tropic Like It’s Hot, Lemon Bee The One, It Takes Passion to Mango and Kitkat You Outta My Head.

Berry Kiwissable is designed to balance the sweetness of strawberry with the tartness of kiwi, while Lemon Bee The One offers the classic lemon and honey combo.

Tropic Like It’s Hot is made with dragon fruit, apple and orange, while KitKat You Outta My Head is a gourmet mix for chocolate lovers.

Meanwhile, It Takes Passion To Mango has chunks of passion fruit and ripe mangoes for a sweet and citrusy blend.

LAS FLORES OPENS IN ALABANG

Las Flores has opened a new branch at the Heritage Building, on the ground floor of the Expansion Wing Festival Mall in Alabang, Muntinlupa City.

The Spanish restaurant is known for its wide selection of pintxos and tapas bites such as steak tartare tacos, liver blast and TNT tuna; cocktails like Las Flores Mule and Missionary’s Downfall; and paellas such as Paella Negra, Setas and Mariscos.

The Las Flores Alabang branch also offers dinner exclusives, including selections ideal for groups: Tapas Por Favor (consisting of Chipirones, Patatas Bravas, Wagyu Bombs and Jamon Croquetas); Make it a Fiesta (Patatas Bravas, Wagyu Bombs, Paella Verduras and a pitcher of Red Sangria); and Para dos Combos (Paella Negra, Chorizo ​​Croquetas and Gambas al Ajillo).

MAMA SITA’S MGA KUWENTONG PAGKAIN BRAND 10TH YEAR

Mga Kuwentong Pagkain of the Mama Sita Foundation recently held a mango picking event and picnic at a mango farm in Mexico, Pampanga, to celebrate its 10th anniversary.

Guests were greeted with snacks of grilled corn, saba and buko placed under a giant mango tree to relive and experience Teresita “Mama Sita” Reyes’ connection and passion for food.

Kapitan Elmer David, the owner of the farm, taught participants how trees are planted, cared for and harvested. Then they went to pick the mangoes from the trees, using a combination of their hands and a sungkit, a tool that is attached to a long pole in order to reach the mangoes higher.

Guests then headed to 25 Seeds by Cafe Fleur for lunch, hosted by Chef Sau Del Rosario. The meals are inspired by the simplicity of the picnic: barbecue dishes, seafood sinigang, paella sisig, seafood kare-kare, among many other local dishes.

Over dinner, they were able to chat with Peach Reyes and Alvin Lim, Mama Sita’s grandchildren, about their experiences at their picnics, and how those experiences relate to their passion and love for the food.

MCDONALD’S LAUNCHES HAPPY MEAL “SONIC 2” TOYS

McDonald’s released Happy Meal toys with “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” characters.

In the new collection, the fast food chain is giving customers 10 collectible toys, including Sonic the Hedgehog characters, Tails, Knuckles and a surprise toy.

A #SonicRingRun AR filter is also available on McDonald’s Philippines Instagram and Facebook pages, allowing users to race their favorite Sonic characters.

The new Happy Meal toys are available at McDonald’s branches for dine-in, drive-thru, take-out and delivery.

Jack ‘n Jill Nips has launched a new flavor called Strawberry Delight, which is made with ruby ​​cocoa balanced with strawberry flavor.

TELUS TASTE OF DIVERSITY COOKBOOK

Telus International has released its first ever cookbook “A Taste of Diversity”, featuring recipes from 60 team members from India, the Philippines and China.

This after the company held a recipe contest for team members at its delivery centers. The winners were chosen by seasoned culinary experts such as Royal Indian Curry House chef Surat Rana, Chinese chef Sheng Tian and Filipino chef RJ Ungco.

The new cookbook offers recipes in five categories: soups, salads, appetizers, main courses and desserts.

EL NIDO DE TIC TAC CONTEST

The Mints Tic Tac brand offers all-inclusive trips to El Nido, Palawan as part of its campaign called “Good MoMints with Tic Tac Gentle Vibes”.
