Department of Health Now Offers Pfizer COVID19 Booster Doses

The Missoula City County Department of Health announced Monday that booster doses of the Pfizer COVID 19 vaccine are now available at the department’s vaccination site in Southgate Mall.

COVID-19 Incident Commander Cindy Farr provides details.

“Last week, the CDC and the Association for Professionals in Infection Control (APIC) reported that people who received their doses of Pfizer vaccine at least six months ago are now recommended to receive a booster.” , Farr said. “Recommended people for recall are people 65 years of age and older and residents living in long-term care facilities; people aged 50 to 64 with underlying health conditions that may put them at a higher risk of COVID and also people aged 18 to 49 who work in an occupation where they are more likely to be exposed to the virus. “

Farr said Saturday was another day with a high number of COVID cases.

“I believe over 100 cases entered on Saturday,” she said. “So we’re definitely seeing continued community spread and we just want to remind people that the same things we’ve been saying for the past year and a half, all of those things are still recommended. Social distancing, washing your hands while staying home if you are sick, getting tested immediately, keeping your social circles restricted – these are all consistently effective measures to prevent the transmission of COVID. “

Farr detailed the number of COVID patients currently being treated at hospitals in the Missoula area.

“So we currently have 39 Missoula County residents hospitalized and 13 out-of-county residents hospitalized in Missoula County right now,” she said. “We continue to see very high hospitalization rates. We have had several deaths over the past week or so, we are now at 125 reported deaths in Missoula County due to COVID. We’ve really seen an increase in the number of people dying from COVID over the last week or so, so I’m getting notifications almost every day. It’s a mix of ages.

Farr then provided information on how to receive the Pfizer COVID booster vaccine.

“You can go to our website and be able to make that appointment, or you can drop in at our old clinic in Southgate Mall in Lucky’s Market. You can come without an appointment and you just want to make sure you bring your vaccination card so they can check with you and make sure it’s been six months since your last dose.

Appointments are available by calling 258-INFO (256-4636).
