Barry Callebaut announces fully sustainable cocoa and vanilla in its Better for You portfolio

CHICAGO–(COMMERCIAL THREAD) –The Barry Callebaut group (SWX: BARN), the world’s leading manufacturer of high-quality chocolate and cocoa products, today announced that its North American “Better For You” portfolio is transitioning to support cocoa and vanilla from sustainable sources.

  • With a full line of sustainable product solutions available in the North America region, the Barry Callebaut brand switches to 100% sustainably sourced cocoa and vanilla

Barry Callebaut’s “Better For You” portfolio includes, but is not limited to, sugary (sugar-free, reduced-sugar, no-sugar-added), protein-rich, dairy-free and organic solutions. The portfolio has experienced strong growth and innovation in recent years. This trend is expected to continue, and today’s announcement provides Barry Callebaut’s North American customers with high-quality, sustainable products and supports industry-wide sustainability ambition.

All “Better for you” products will be transferred to CACAO HORIZONS verified via the Cacao Horizons Foundation. Other popular cocoa sustainability certification programs are still available. COCOA HORIZONS sustainable cocoa and chocolate products are sold by Barry Callebaut with a premium which is used to help improve the livelihoods of cocoa farmers and their communities. These bonuses go to Cacao Horizons Foundation finance cocoa sustainability activities such as mentoring and support to farmers, distribution of cocoa and non-cocoa plants and community development through a transparent and externally verified process. The Cocoa Horizons Foundation serves as a platform for chocolate companies and other contributors to invest in sustainable cocoa. It relies on expert partners such as Barry Callebaut to implement sustainable development activities. In addition, “Better For You” products will support sustainable vanilla production through a partnership with vanilla supplier Prova to implement the Sustainable Vanilla Charter.
